Changelog

Map2Model ships steadily. Here's what changed for you.

Fixes: water, routes and the square tool

  • Water stays in the river: it no longer runs through the buildings along the banks.
  • GPX routes print as one continuous, smooth line that follows the terrain, instead of a chain of blocky segments. Longer routes and routes with a lot of climb look clean too.
  • The square tool draws a true square everywhere, not a tall rectangle at higher latitudes.
  • Upload a GPX file and the map jumps straight to your route, so you no longer have to search for the location first.

Site polish: previews, linking, speed

  • Every page now shows a link preview with an image when shared in Discord, Reddit or Slack.
  • The printing guides are cross-linked and reachable from the footer, so the next one is a click away.
  • The GPX route guide answers common hiking-trail questions in a new FAQ.
  • Lighter first page load: the editor appears faster, especially on slower connections.

Shareable area links and new guides

  • Share the area you printed: links with ?area=west, south, east, north reproduce a rectangle selection in one click, and the Draw Area panel has a Share button that copies the link for you. Circle and polygon selections share as their bounding rectangle.
  • Two new guides: printing a multicolor 3MF map on AMS or MMU printers, and turning a GPX route into a printed terrain model.
  • New /guide hub collects the step-by-step printing guides in one place.

Touch drawing, cancel button, cleaner exports

  • Draw areas with a finger or pen: rectangle, square, circle and hexagon tools now work on phones and tablets.
  • Generation can be cancelled mid-run, and the progress overlay shows the satellite step in satellite mode.
  • Custom Size: place an exact width × height (km) rectangle at the map center.
  • Fixed inverted side walls and inside-out pyramid roofs in exported models, so slicers no longer need to auto-repair them.
  • Satellite colors export true to the preview (no more washed-out imagery), and scale bar / north arrow / frame text sit on top of hilly terrain instead of inside it.
  • GPX routes show on the map, Load Project flies to the loaded area, Esc exits draw modes, and search results work with the keyboard.

Terrain guide and smarter suggestions

  • New guide: 3D print a terrain map (topographic models from real elevation).
  • Auto-suggested vertical exaggeration based on the actual relief of your selected area.

Map frames grew up

  • Opt-in embossed scale bar and north arrow on the frame.
  • Color legend in the export menu: see which part maps to which AMS slot before you download.

Better water, roofs and bridges

  • Connected lakes and rivers share one water level (no more stepped seams across a single lake).
  • Roofs no longer cap courtyards; snow bands skip water; bridges can span with a real gap or fill solid for support-free printing.
  • Greenery and sand parse multipolygons with holes, so parks with courtyards print correctly.

Launch

  • Map2Model goes live: select any city or mountain, generate a 3D model from OpenStreetMap and real elevation data, export multicolor 3MF or STL. Free, in your browser.
